The Department of Education released its calendar for the School Year 2023 to 2024 activities under the DepEd Order No. 22, s. 2023 otherwise known as the Implementing Guidelines on the School Calendar and Activities for the School Year 2023-2024. The main purpose is to allow community learning centers and schools to carry out school activities while maximizing instructional time according to the objectives and goals of the MATATAG Agenda in the most efficient and effective manner.
In compliance with Republic Act No. 11480 or the Act to Lengthen the School Calendar from Two Hundred Days to Not More Than Two Hundred Twenty Class Days, the School Year 2023-2024 will start on the 29th of August, 2023 and will end on the 14th of June, 2024. What Is the DepEd School Calendar 2023-2024?
The DepEd Start of Enrollment is from August 7 to 26, 2023, followed by the DepEd Oplan Balik Eskwela on August 14 to 19, 2023. the total number of school days will be not more than 220 school days for the current school year. The DepEd Parent-Teacher Conferences and distribution of report cards are conducted at a specific time and date after the quarterly examinations scheduled by the schools.
Before the opening of classes, the National Schools Maintenance Week or Brigada Eskwela is observed. In the DepEd calendar for the current school year, it falls on these dates: August 14 to 19, 2023. This is a school activity that is participated by parents, teachers, community members, students, and stakeholders to voluntarily give time and some resources to gear up the classrooms and other school facilities for the opening of classes.
The DepEd Calendar and Activities for 2023 to 2024 has four quarters including one semestral break before the third quarter. To give you an idea of the exact dates when each quarter begins and ends, check the following:
- The First Quarter is from August 29 to October 3, 2023.
- The Second Quarter is from October 31 to January 23, 2024.

Special Guidelines for ALS and PSUs
For the Alternative Learning System, learning intervention also formally opens on the 29th of August, 2023, the same day as the opening for public formal basic education. However, the duration of the program depends on the individual agreements of the learners according to the pre-assessments as well as recognition for prior learning.
On the other hand, private schools and state or local universities and colleges in the Philippines may follow the omnibus implementing guidelines regarding the school year calendar while adopting the provisions specified in RA 11480 on matters of the class days total number. Moreover, schools are required to report in advance or document any deviation from the said guidelines to the concerned regional offices.
In case of any inconsistent provisions, all DepEd Orders including some related issuances, regulations, and other rules will be automatically rescinded, repealed, or changed accordingly. Important Pointers to Consider
- Community learning centers and schools are only allowed to follow local and national holidays that were lawfully declared.
- All schools must implement in-person learning as the primary mode of learning delivery. Private schools should implement any of the options including Blended Learning Delivery Modality, five days of in-person classes, or Full Distance Learning.
Under the BLDM, private schools may have three days of in-person classes with two days of distance learning MDL, TV/RBI, or ODL. For example, they can have in-person classes from Mondays to Wednesdays distance learning from Thursdays to Fridays, or in-person classes from Mondays to Thursdays and distance learning on Fridays.
Regarding the Monthly School Calendar of Activities for School Year 2023-2024, the relevant dates to keep in mind are those declared holidays, days for Co-Curricular Activities, Home-School Collaboration Related Activities, INSET, and administration of Quarterly Examinations. For the Year-End Deliberation of Awards, the set date should be ten calendar days before EOS while any financial clearance is prohibited in all public schools.
